Today, March 8th, the world celebrates women and discusses the issues that face women today. In honor of this, I have made a list of famous female authors from throughout history and their books, but here's the catch: I'm only mentioning the books of theirs that feature a female main character.

2. AUTHOR: Harper Lee
BOOKS: To Kill a Mockingbord (and soon, Go Set a Watchman!)

It is also important to recognize authors and books that are empowering to women, but do not feature a main character, as they are memoirs and poems. Some of those include:
1. Work: A Story of Experienc, Louisa May Alcott & Joy S. Kasson
2. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou
3. Phenomenal Women, Maya Angelou
4. The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir
5. The Vindication of the Rights of Woman, Mary Wollstonecraft
6. The Beauty Myth, Naomi Wolf
7. I Am Malala, Malala Yousafzai & Christina Lamb
...and more!
The 21st centruy has also birthed new fictional books by women, about women, and for women. Some of these include Susanne Collins' The Hunger Games, Rainbow Rowells' Fangirl and Landine, Gayle Forman's If I Stay, Melinda Marchetta's Jellicoe Road, Veronica Roth's Divergent, Amy Poehler's Yes Please, Tina Fey's Bossypants, and many more.
Rememer, reading women's literature is a wondeful way to celebrate International Women's Day!
