I've Found My Next Obsession...

...it's called Spotify, and it is amazing.
Last week, I was sitting in my car, innocently scrolling through Pinterest, when an ad popped up on the button of the screen. Irritated at this invasion, I positioned my finger over the X, ready to banish the ad from my screen. Then, I looked closer. What's this? The ad is advertising an app that claims to have free music! My curiousity peaked, I tapped on the banner. It transported me to a black-and-white-colored website that whispered of warm cups of coffee and late nights spent with earbuds. There, at the top of the screen, in beautiful Sans serif font, was a single word: "Spotify."
No, really!
Spotify is digital music application that features thousands of song, albums, artists, and playlists. With Spotify, you can create your own playlists, upload your own music, follow your favorite artists, and connect with friends. Now, you can probably do all of this on any other free music app, right? Well, Spotify has other features that make it stand out from the crowd:
1. Browse
Spotify's Browse menu offers this week's top songs, new releases, and my personal favorite, the Genres and Mood button. The Genre and Mood menu offers thousands of different playlists based on the category or genre of your choice. For example, when you can click on "Rock" you're transposrted to a screen filled with different playlists. Then, you can select any of the playlists (with titles such as "90s Alternative Rock" and "Rock Right Now") and listen to dozens of songs. Let's say you go back to the Genre and Mood menu and click on "Chill." You can then select a playlist like "Earl Grey Morning" or "Sunday Drive" and find songs such as Adna's Dreamer or Young the Giant's Mind Over Matter. The Mood category on the Genre and Mood menu features playlists such as "Songs to Sing in the Shower" and "Your Favorite Coffeehouse.' Oh, and then the Words category! When you click on that, you can learn different languages and listen to audiobooks such as...wait for it...Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby! NO WAY, right?
2. Discover
The Discover button, located within the Browse main menu, recommends music and artists to you based on what you frequently listen to. For example, Spotify recommended Daniela Andrade's Covers, Vol 1 and Katie Herzig's The Waking Sleep because I listened to Mindy Gledhill and Rose Ave. I haven't listen to them yet, but who knows? They might be my new favorites!
By the way, I am NOT getting paid to say this. I am not Spotify's new spokesperson! I just wanted to describe my new obsession and urge my lovely followers to get the free version of Spotify! Oh, you can get the paid Premium version too, if you'd like. I actually haven't tried Premium yet (the free verison is awesome--I can live with the ads for free music) but if you do, Tweet me and let me know if its worth it! I can definitively say that the free verion is worth it--just be prepared to be spending most of your time with your earbuds firmly implanted!
UPDATE: Daniela Adrade is good, Katie Herzig is not.
