Everyone has heard the story of Superman and his alter ego, Clark Kent. And everyone knows about his love interest Lois Lane, a fellow reporter over at The Daily Planet. Unfortunately for Lois Lane, Superman gets all the credit for saving the wolrd and "reporting the news." But that's all about to change. In the upcoming novel Fallout, readers get a look into the life of Lois Lane before Superman started batting his eyelashes and flexing his triceps. Lois Lane is new to Metropolis. Being an army brat, Lois has lived all over and seen a bunch of crazy and sometimes inexpalinable things, such as the strange mishap she witnessed in Kansas late one night. Determined to fit in at her new school, Lois resolves to dissolve into the woodwork. As soon as she steps foot into her new high school, however, she knows that that isn't gonna be easy. A group called the Warheads are bullying a girl at her school via a high-tech video game that seems to be messing with her head. And Lois just can't stand to see this happen. She sets her sights on solving this mystery and helping the girl, armed with her wittiness and her new reporter job. Soon, however, a plot twist named Smallville Guy steps into her world. Written by Gwenda Bond, Fallout is said to be published in May by Switch Press. Entertainment Weekly says, "So it’s basically Lois Lane in a Veronica Mars-esque plot, which sounds like all kinds of awesome." (Books and a Veronica Mars reference in the same article? Oh, Entertainment Weekly. Let’s get married.) This book sounds absolutely brilliant--I can't WAIT for May to come! Besides the unbelievably epic plot, Fallout speaks about the treatment of women in comic books, defying the stereotype that a superhero's love interest is unimportant, someone that is only written about when Superman or Batman or Green Lantern needs someone new to save. So it's an awesome YA book that speaks out against the treatment of women in comic books--In other words, ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.
